Wolfsburg (23 May 2009) Laurens Vanthoor has taken the lead of the standings in the ATS Formula 3 Cup. The Belgian from the Volkswagen customer team Van Amersfoort clinched victory at the Nurburgring on Friday and second place on Saturday. His team-mate Stef Dusseldorp (NL) finished the first round empty-handed but delivered a remarkable recovery in the second race, from last to fifth place, and now ranks third overall.

Daniel Abt celebrates double victory at the Nurburgring
Wolfsburg (23 May 2009) Daniel Abt showed a dominant performance at the ADAC Formula Masters on the Nurburgring, winning both races. After being forced to take a break at Assen, the youngster from the Bavarian family of racers has now moved up to second place in the standings. Kevin Friesacher (A) and Christian Wangard (D) grabbed the podium places on Friday, on Saturday Adrian Campfield (GB) and again Friesacher took podiums.

Wolfsburg (23 May 2009) Patrick Simon not only started from the 24-hour race grid alongside Carlos Sainz (E), Dieter Depping (D) and Wolfgang Kaufmann (D) but together with Heinz Stuber drove a 1980 Scirocco at the ADAC 24-hour classic race. "That was a great experience. Youve really got to work hard in the historic Scirocco, said Simon. His reward: victory in the class up to 1600 cc, the "sister car from KWL Motorsport completed the one-two victory.

Wolfsburg (23 May 2009) At the 24-hour race, the alumni of Volkswagens touring car school form a strong squad: 16 former Polo and Lupo Cup drivers started from the grid in cars of various makes. The Scirocco drivers Jimmy Johansson and Peter Terting are among them as well as Johannes Stuck (Alpina B6), Maximilian Werndl (Aston Martin) or Fabian Plentz (BMW). Veteran Wolfgang Kaufmann (Volkswagen Scirocco GT24) won a race on the Nurburgring-Nordschleife back in 1983 in the Polo Cup staged at that time.
