Jointly into the future: Yokohama extends Formula 3 deal
In mid-September, the Nurburgring was the venue of the official extension of a successful partnership: Yokohama remains official supplier and tyre partner of the ATS Formula 3 Cup. The contract of the renowned manufacturer of high performance tyres and Formula 3 Association allows for a minimum term of two years. The partnership is supposed to be continued following the 2010 season and therefore, accordant options were granted.
As early as from 2000 to 2002, Yokohama was involved in German single-seater racing as exclusive partner of the International German Formula 3 Championship. And the drivers of the newly created Formula 3 Cup also contested their races on Yokohama tyres right from the beginning, in 2003.
"Yokohama represents a reliable and one of the most important partners of our series," says Detlef Kramp, President of the German Formula 3 Association. "We demand a great deal of our partners when it comes to competence, delivery reliability, service and product quality. As our exclusive tyre partner, Yokohama has been guaranteeing fair conditions for many years, now - and that's particularly vital in a well-established young-talent series such as the ATS Formula 3 Cup."
The 13th round of the season, recently held at the EuroSpeedway, brought another proof of the fact that the Yokohama tyres have got what it takes to provide the young drivers with significant feedback even with several laps completed and guarantee optimum grid after many laps: in that race, championship leader Frederic Vervisch set the fastest race lap on the 16th of the 19 laps.
During the signing of the contract, in the Yokohama-Lounge, Rolf Kurz, Manager Marketing & PR Yokohama, said: "We are delighted with the new extension of the deal. After all, the fact that a partnership is successfully lived for such a long period demonstrates the high level of both satisfaction and trust of both parties involved."
And Manfred Theisen, Manager Motorsport Yokohama, added: "The ATS Formula 3 Cup will remain a particularly important component of our motor-racing concept, in the future".
Consequently, the future ATS Formula 3 Cup single-seaters also will be shod with Yokohama slicks and wet weather tyres in the proven tyres dimensions 200/50 VR13 at the front and 240/45 VR13 at the rear.
