Strong performance of Nico Verdonck on the Nürburgring

JB Motorsport and Nico Verdonck went to the Nürburgring, where the fifth and sixth race of the ATS German Formula 3 Cup were held in the weekend of the 24 hour race. The opportunity arose for all Formula 3 drivers to drive a demonstration lap on the fearsome "Nordschleife".

Thursday, the Formula 3 cars were in the work very early. During the test session the Belgian driver was fastest. In qualifying however, he drove the fourth time. "This isn't a bad result actually, but I expected more. I didn't drive on this circuit for three years, so I had to acclimatize. The track was very dirty and greasily. During qualifying, there was a lot of traffic on track and I was not able to get everything out of my new slicks. The car was not perfect and I experienced understeer in some corners." Nico went even faster in Friday qualifying with third fastest time. That result took him onto the second row of the starting grid for race 2.

JB Motorsports number one driver started strong into the first race. Starting from fourth he went past two opponents and was second into the first corner. "I came on a level with leader Van Dam, but he had a better racing line going into the second corner so I couldn't pass him. After a Safety Car procedure my second place was never threatened.

In the second race Nico made for a thrilling moment, as he and three other cars drove side by side towards the first corner. Nico dived into that corner just behind leader Vervisch. However Verdonck could not hold off Christian Vietoris' attack. The German passed him and Recardo Bruins also benefited of this assault to pass JB's driver. In the end, Nico finished fourth under the rear wing of Bruins.

"I learned a lot this weekend", commented the 21 year old Belgian. "We have to keep working hard to reduce the gap to the leaders in the championship. I would like to thank all the team for their effort and also my fantastic partners and supporters from Kyphon."

The teams have now a break of one month, whereafter they go racing again on the Nürburgring during the FIA Truck Grand Prix.
