Frederic Vervisch runner-up in German Formula 3!
During the last weekend of the German ATS Formula 3 Cup, Frederic Vervisch confirmed his qualities as a rain driver and secured the second place in the championship.
The Lola B06/30 OPC Challenge with race number 2 started very strong into the weekend. In the qualifying for the last two races of the season in Oschersleben, Vervisch drove the second fastest time for race 1. In the end his time was cancelled as he was going too fast during a caution period. Thus, he had to start the first race from the third place on the grid. In the second session, Frederic managed to set the fastest lap. It was the first pole position for the 21-year-old Belgian driver in this F3 campaign.
But being on pole wasn't essential to win on the circuit of Oschersleben. Vervisch proved this fact in the first race, when he took the lead at the start in the rain. He was able to maintain a good pace and won the race with a lead of over 13 seconds in front of his team mate Nico Verdonck. "It was easy to stay in the lead, but I had to avoid unnecessary mistakes. It's a pity that the race lasted for only 19 minutes, because we were so quick that we could have won with a bigger margin." Thanks to his victory, Frederic secured the second place in the overall standings.
Vervisch could not keep his pole position in the second race. He lost the lead to Van Dam, but was able to follow the Dutchman. After a small error, Frederic dropped back to third place. "I had too much oversteer and got on the dirty part of the track which cost me a second place on the rostrum", Fred said after the race.
Now the season has ended, the prices are allocated and it's time to review the season. Frederic won four races (Hockenheim, Nurburgring, Eurospeedway en Oschersleben), took one pole position and set the fastest lap in the race seven times. Thanks to these good results, he finished second in the standings with 127 points.
"I want to thank everyone who made this success possible. In the first place, I want to thank my sponsors Trends, Kyphon, Winsol and Brooklyn. But also everyone at JB Motorsport, the mechanics, the management as well as my entourage", Frederic Vervisch said. "We had a fantastic year and I finished my first really competitive season with success."
What Frederic Vervisch will be doing next year is uncertain at this moment. "It will depend on our budget. It is crucial to be well prepared for next saison", Fred explains. "I have tested a lot during the last winter and in the end it payed off. If we can do a lot of mileage and find the necessary budget, then we have a great season in foresight."
