Vervisch dominated at Zhuhai

With a double victory in Zhuhai, Frederic Vervisch took over the lead in the Asian Formula 3 Championship.

Like last month in Sepang, Frederic was the dominating driver. But this time he added two victories to his tally. Already during free practice the 21-year-old Belgian racer was unbeatable. On the very fast Zhuhai track, he was seven tenths quicker than his rivals and everything looked promising for qualifying. There, he took the lead immediately until his team mate Suzuki went faster five minutes before the end of the session. "I entered the pit during a caution period, when Suzuki drove a faster lap", Vervisch told.

Second place on the grid for race 1 however was enough for a fantastic demonstration during the race. On the first lap Fred took the command and built up his lead to fourteen seconds at the finish. "Everything went very smooth. We were able to keep up a good pace and I could finally take revenge for Sepang." Not only did he won his first race in the Asian Formula 3 Championship, Vervisch also set the fastest lap in the race and took over the lead in the championship from Hamad Al Fardan.

In the second race Frederic started on pole position, but was overtaken by a rival on the start. "I was able to regain the lead after a few corners and kept the command until the finish", Frederic explained. "The car wasn't as good as in the first race, but nevertheless we were able to win with a winning margin of a couple of seconds. We also set the fastest lap."

"I want to thank everyone at Team Goddard for their commitment, but also my engineer Roel Van de Voorde who is backing me up since my period at JB Motorsport. We were not able to score the maximum number of points, but with 42 points, two victories, two fastest laps, one pole position and the lead in the championship we can be very happy. It's almost impossible to do better than that", Vervisch concluded.

The next races of the Asian Formula 3 Championship will be held in Batangas on the Philippines, on January 12th-13th. On the very technical and short circuit, Frederic will be able to show his qualities entirely.
