Barcelona 23th April 2003- Franck Montagny, the French driver of the Gabord Competicion Team and current leader of the Superfund World Series by Nissan, is set for the next race of the World Series on April 27th. The Frenchman is willing to add another couple of victories through out the season to reach his personal goal: to beat the Series record of victories, established by last year's Champion, Ricardo Zonta.
But it won't be easy for the young RenaultF1 test driver. After his brilliant performance in Jarama where Montagny won both races, the other drivers, are willing to separate him from his provisional throne in the first place of this top competition.
The French driver has declared " I don't think I have advantage over the rest of the drivers. We have only won two races and there are still much more. Besides, we haven't had time to test with the team after Jarama. I have been very busy working as a test driver for the Renault Formula 1 team and a month has almost past since the last meeting at Jarama. I hope I will be able to adapt really quick again to the World Series car".
Montagny trusts that next race in Zolder will be fill with thrills "I'm very happy to go to Zolder and to compete again in the Super Fund World Series by Nissan. I hope that it doesn't rain that day because all the drivers will start to use the new Michelin S510 fastest type of tyres for the competition, so we want a dry circuit. I think that working to adapt to the new tyres will be one of the main tactics of our team".
Montagny hopes that he could win both races at Zolder, although he hasn't learned the lap track yet. For him, this will be his first visit to this Belgian circuit.
Gabord gets ahead after a brilliant race of both of his drivers
After the spectacular race in Jarama, the Gabord Competición Team expects to maintain its first position in the team's standings. At the moment, Gabord leads the Series after the great exhibition of its two drivers, Franck Montagny and Heikki Kovalainen in the opening meeting held at El Jarama (Madrid). After them, Ander Vilariño, Marc Gené and Enrique Bernoldi battle to be at the first positions. The heavy rainy conditions at El Jarama ruined several drivers' performance and the races were marked by a lot of incidents. Only a few drivers could complete both races with an intact car.
