Draco Multiracing USA Team looks ahead to Le Mans races: in fact, the Spanish appointment has been a full week-end in which the drivers of the Tuscan Team have been sorely tried.
In Race 1, S.Marino' driver Christian Montanari, who started from the tenth row, made a good race, and he finished twelfth, behind his team-mate Markus Winkelhock, eleventh after a mistake on lap 3 that cost him some positions.
The second race was characterized by a series of incidents and the safety car, which brought out two times: on the front row Winkelhock had a difficult start loosing important positions. On the first lap he was touched by an opponent and he was forced to come into the pit on lap 3 to change the damaged front tyre. The Team decided to change both front tyres. When the German driver rejoined the track he pushed hard, crossing the finishing line fifth. Unfortunately, the pit stop ahead of time cost him a penalty of 20 seconds. Christian Montanari made in the second challenge an exciting recovery: from the ninth place, after a perfect overtakings' series, on last lap he was on podium virtually, but on lap 26 S.Marino' driver attacked Will Power, who touched him on the exit of the bend: both drivers were forced to abandon the race.
Mr Adriano Morini, Draco Team Owner: "Unfortunately this week-end didn't go very well...it's a pity, in the second race especially Winkelhock had the advantage to start on the front row, and Montanari had made a great recovery, but then, the contact with Power on the last lap...at least, we verified the cars were ok...now we have to work for Le Mans."
Christian Montanari, Draco driver: "It's natural that I'm not satisfied... my qualifying didn't go very well, then, in Race 1 I succeeded in making a good recovery from 19th to 12th place. In the second race I started from ninth place, I made a good race, moving up to the third position, but on last lap I attacked Power, on the exit of the 4th bend I was in front, but he touched me...I lost the podium and I was forced to abandon the race. Now I look ahead to next races..."
Markus Winkelhock, Draco driver: "I'm disappointed...In the first race, I made a mistake and I lost some places. I finished eleventh. In the second race I started on the front row, but I had some problems at the start. On the first lap, an opponent hit my car, damaging my front wheel. On lap 3 I came in to the pit and the Team decided to change both front tyres. When I returned to the track I pushed hard and I recovered to finish fifth. Unfortunately my pit stop ahead of time cost me a penalty of 20 seconds. It's a pity."
