Tech 1 Racing gears up for titles' defence with Jousse and Pic
2007 was a very fruitful for Tech 1 Racing as the Toulouse-based team won the Drivers' and Teams' titles. It is preparing for the 2008 season with a single aim in mind: retain both titles. To achieve this Tech 1 will again put its trust in Julien Jousse be backed up by promising rookie, Charles Pic.
Tech 1 Racing, now in its third season in the Formula Renault 3.5 Championship, has upped its ambitions another couple of notches. In 2008, it will be out to confirm its 2007 successes. Its two drivers -- Julien Jousse (22) and Charles Pic (18 in a few days) -- will have a tough job on their hands. Things are clear for Simon Abadie: "we've got a stable and solid team that we've beefed up even more. We're very confident in our choice of drivers and Julien has matured a lot with us. He had three rostrum finishes showing just how quick he is, and he made a big contribution to our success in the Teams' title. As for Charles, his winter testing has been very promising, and provided he knuckles down to the work in hand he should soon be among the front runners."
In September, Julien left his native Var and set up house in Toulouse to be near the team. "He's now living the life of a professional racing driver and we dovetail perfectly. Julien has integrated the team without problems, and the fact that he's living in Toulouse enables us to work together efficiently on a daily basis. Our guys are doing their best to put him on the right track. He had a great first season and was one of the best debutants so logically speaking he has what it takes to succeed Alvaro Parente," states Simon. "Julien will spearhead our attack and he's ready to race at the front. What's more we're delighted to see that during winter testing Julien and Charles enjoyed working together. Julien's experience and maturity will be a big help to Charles in his rookie year."
This will be Charles's first season in Formula Renault 3.5. After a good year in the 2.0 Formula Renault Eurocup in which he finished in the top three, he made a big impact in winter testing by the speed with which he adapted to driving the FR 3.5. Charles will be out to find his marks early on, and he will then take the fight to the quick guys according to his team manager's analysis. "Charles will have to get down to some serious winter testing basing himself on his team-mate's experience, as well as taking advantage of all the help the team can give him. He mustn't be impatient and want to win immediately. It's a long season and you have to know how to pace yourself and pick up points when the opportunity arises. He'll have to listen and learn without putting himself under too much pressure. For sure Charles has what it takes to fight it out at the front, and we're counting on him as a potential title contender."
With a couple of competitive drivers, a well-prepared and highly-motivated team all the ingredients are there to succeed. The cars bearing the numbers 1 and 2 will be among the favourites. "It's up to us to work hard and provide our drivers with reliable and competitive cars. The main objective is the Teams' title. We'll be up against quick, skilled rivals once again, and we have to give ourselves the weapons to beat them. It's clear that we're also aiming for the Drivers' title. It's more difficult and luck plays a bigger part, but we'll do our best to win it. It all depends on carrying out in-depth testing so that we arrive at the first race in 100% competitive form," sums up Simon.
Rendezvous on 5th and 6th March on the Valencia circuit for the first 2008 tests with the new machine.
