ISR Racing rebounds to take maiden win at Spa-Francorchamps

It's been a crazy weekend for ISR Racing, as a terrible Saturday led to an unforgettable Sunday at Spa-Francorchamps. Running in the second round of the 2010 World Series Renault, the Czech squad was able to celebrate its first-ever win thanks to Esteban Guerrieri. Victory came in some extremely tough weather conditions, with a wet track and a thick rain that forced race control to delay the start by 30 minutes. The team, owned by Igor Salaquarda, set sights on the top in qualifying, when Guerrieri and Filip Salaquarda ended up respectively in 12th and 22nd. Guerrieri started to move up since the early stages, clinching 9th by lap 6, while Salaquarda was running in 17th. As the Argentinean delayed the mandatory pit-stop more than his main rivals, he pushed hard and on lap 10, when the change was eventually made, the great job done by the ISR Racing pit crew was enough for him to hold the lead.

In the meantime, the stewards assessed drive-through penalties to ten drivers for having switched from slick to rain tires on the grid outside the allowed window. Guerrieri, whose lead over second- placed Zampieri was about 7 seconds, cruised to the checkered flag by clocking the fastest laps of the race all the way from lap 7 through the end. Salaquarda, who was looking for a clean run after three retirements in the previous races, performed flawlessly and brought home 15th place.

Igor Salaquarda - Team Principal

"What a weekend. Both our cars didn't make it to Race 1 on Saturday, and then, on the following day, we're celebrating a win! The World Series Renault is an incredibly high-level championship, with some really experienced teams. We've been working with these cars just for a few months, and being at the top of the podium so soon is incredible, really rewarding. Guerrieri drove a fantastic race, this is the Esteban I wanted!

"This result gives us even more motivation and boosts our confidence while keep looking forward. We're keeping down to earth though, as we're aware that working hard and day by day is key, if we want to stay at the top."

Esteban Guerrieri

"Being able to win at Spa-Francorchamps, under the rain, and at the second round ever for the team in the series is something really exceptional. I pushed hard since the start, and I ended up being the fastest man on-track for the whole second half of the race. I couldn't exactly understand what was happening, as I didn't know anything about the drive-through penalties and so on. I just found myself up front, with a clean racetrack, and pushed as hard as I could."

Filip Salaquarda

"After the first qualifying session, whi ch hadn't proved positive, my goal was to bring the car to the end. I had retired in the three previous races, and I wanted to see the checkered flag without experiencing issues. I've been focused, I kept away from trouble, and that eventually paid off."
