Starting on the front row Orudzhev got a perfect getaway to take the lead of the race from Nissany, as polesitter Matthieu Vaxiviere dropped to third, fighting with championship leader Tom Dillmann.

Up ahead, Nissany piled immense pressure on the Arden driver but Orudzhev maintained position after some feisty fight between the two, until Lap 16.

Going through Stowe, Orudzhev went wide giving Nissany an opportunity, which the Israeli took with both hands.

But the Russian came back into the corner as they both made contact, while Nissany got going quickly, Orudzhev lost positions, ultimately retiring with broken suspension.

The result stands provisional as both Nissany and Orudzhev are under investigation, it will be taken up by the stewards after the race.

Behind Nissany was Vaxiviere who soaked the pressure first from Dillmann and then Lotus’ Rene Binder to claim his third podium of the season.

Dillmann was catching Binder towards the end but ran out of laps to end fourth, both separated by a mere 0.792s, with Aurelien Panis finishing a distant fifth.

Fortec’s Pietro Fittipaldi managed to bring the gap to Panis to under a second but had to content with sixth taking the rookie honours, registering his best result of the season.

The top 10 was completed by Yu Kanamaru at seventh, Vitor Baptista eighth, Beitske Visser ninth and Louis Deletraz 10th.

The Renault academy driver was forced to start from the pitlane after his engine switched off at the start/finish straight just before the race start.
