Gene, first collective tests in the World Series by Nissan: "I have adapted very well to the car, but still a lot of work to do!"
Madrid, 11 MARCH 2003 ? The Spaniard Ángel Burgueño topped the list of times at El Jarama during the second official Pre-Season Tests. Burgueño was behind the wheel again with a Vergani Formula car and he was using the S510 new compound of Michelin tyres. "We are really glad with this result because we had a lot of problems in the morning session. Probably my future will be here in this Series but we have to decide which team. Burgueño lapped 1.22. 248, almost one second faster than the race lap record of this category (2002,Ricardo Zonta, 1.23.530). The second Season of the World Series by Nissan starts at Jarama the next 30th of March.
The BMW.Williams F1 test driver Marc Gene will compete in the World Series with the Spanish-based team Adrian Campos Motorsport. Gene was participating today in this Pre-Season : "My Formula One job will be always a priority but I was keen to compete again. I have a lot of problems with the car brakes and we've lost most of the afternoon session trying to solve that problem. In the morning session the car was feeling pretty good. I adapted well to it. Let's be positive." The driver will be absent tomorrow, as he will be testing in Jerez.
Franck Montagny (Gabord Competicion) was the only driver, apart from Burgueño, below the 1.23 lap time. Narain Kartikheyan, third best register of the day, has proof the good progress of the new entered team Carlin Motorsport.
Top Belgium driver Bas Leinders was the forth, and he was quite happy with the good work completed today: "Pascal Tortosa, our new race engineer, didn't know the cars in Barcelona but today we completed a very successful test day. We think that we may do a good job in Jarama as we show that the Team is improving day by day.
Enrique Bernoldi is taking part in this tests with the RC Motorsport Team. The Brazilian driver interest in this Series is increasing day by day. Polo Villaamil (SPA) has been announced today as one of the drivers of this Italian Team. The second driver may be announced soon--
The US driver Paul Edwards, member of the Red Bull F1 Drivers Research, has been sixth, followed by his young team mate Felix Porteiro: "It was a nice experience to drive in this track for the very first time. I liked very much. Tomorrow we can still improve our times as we have a full test day ahead."
All participating drivers improved their best registers obtained during the morning session. The weather was sunny and hot in Madrid, but there were a lot of red flags so the afternoon session was extended for another 40 minutes.
Last Day of Pre-Season Tests at Jarama, tomorrow 12th March 2003: Two sessions from 10h to 13h and from 14h30 to 17h30.
