Kartikheyan tops World Series by Nissan test.
Carlin Motorsport places its two drivers in top positions.
Madrid, 12 March 2003 ? The Indian driver Narain Kartikheyan (1.22.221) has set the pace in the final Pre-Season Test Day at El Jarama, followed by his team mate Bruce Jouanny, that led the afternoon session (1.22.432), and the Brazilian Formula One driver, Enrique Bernoldi, 1.22. 515. Again, in the second session, Kartikheyan has been one of the references of the day (1.22.931): "There were a lot of red flags but we managed to made some clear laps using fresh S510 Michelin 2003 tyres. We would like to start the Season here at El Jarama with some tope positions. Carlin Motorsport is adapting very well to this new Series. I'm very confident."
Burgueño has been the second fastest driver in the accumulate list of times, and if he enters this Series he may be one of the top Spanish drivers. Obviously Marc Gene will be one of the references.
Bernoldi, the third quickest driver, was pretty happy with his test: "The car is really fast and we have improved a lot since I had my first contact with the car in Barcelona. I'm happy to finish my work in third position. I liked to drive here at El Jarama. There are some amazing areas in this track. I really enjoyed a lot and I hope that I can stay here and find a drive."
The technical level of the Series has been improved, and we now may see not only Formula One drivers in the grid but also some very qualified personnel working within the Teams, like Peter Wys (RC Motorsport): "Dallara, PIA and Michelin joined in one single seater category are the best guarantee for a driver that plans to enter in F-1"
Saulnier Racing, the French team that makes its debut in the World Series with their drivers Andre Besson and Didier Andre, has been working hard to get ready for the first round (30th March 2003): "We don't care about the times here, you know? We only want to be ready for the first race. Besson and Andre did not know the car and we think that they are in the good path now"
The Afternoon session had another extra 30 minutes extended time, but Montagny, Bernoldi or Felix Porteiro did not complete the session as they have enough data.
We will see at Jarama.
