One day, two podium finishes: the F.Renault 3.5 Saturday in Paul Ricard proved to be quite special for Draco Racing, as the Italian team managed to collect two trophies. The first one was awarded to André Negrão in the morning, as the Brazilian talent was promoted to 3rd place in Race 1 after Kevin Magnussen was excluded due to a technical infringment on his car.
Still quicker than the Portuguese driver on a full lap, Muller managed to follow him closely, and then when it was time for the pit-stop he made a difference with perfect in and out laps. That allowed him to pass both Da Costa and Sorensen when they performed their mandatory tyre change, and to sail away until the end of the race and take the flag in 2nd place with a 4 second gap on the closest rival. Negrao, in the meantime, had to start from P14 after struggling with traffic in Qualifying.
Thanks to a medium downforce setup he was quick on the straights and could pull some good overtaking moves, finishing in P11.
Nico Muller (Q2 - P3; R2 - P2): "I'm really happy. After Qualifying I knew that I had a great car and I was focused on making the most of it. My start was good but Da Costa's top speed was higher than mine and allowed him to pass me on the straight. Anyway, I soon realized that I could lap quicker than him and so I decided to make a difference with the pit-stop. I pushed hard in my in-lap using as much DRS I could, and then I did the same in the out-lap. It worked well because I passed both Antonio and Sorensen, and from then on it was just cruising to a P2 finish. It was a great race, and the team deserve a big thanks for the amazing job they did".
André Negrão: (Q2 - P14; R2 - P11): "I didn't manage traffic well in Qualifying, and after that I knew that I was heading towards a tough race. I was right, as recovering ground was very hard, even with a medium downforce setup that gave me some more speed on the straight. Anyway it's a very positive weekend, I'm quite happy with it"."
