Zampieri eleventh in Race 2 at Magny Cours

Maranello, 20 June - Race 2 of this round of the WSR 3.5 Championship, held today at the Magny Cours circuit, was affected by drive-through penalties and tyre choice, with the start delayed by ten minutes, after it was declared a "wet race."

Just before the start, the French track was hit with a brief downpour, which caused confusion among the teams when it came to tyre choice. Those in the back half of the grid went for rain tyres, while those at the front opted to make a last minute change to slicks, having first fitted wets. Doing this took more than the time allowed, which led the Stewards to give drive-through penalties to Daniel Ricciardo (Tech 1 Racing,) Esteban Guerrieri (ISR,) Albert Costa (Epsilon Euskadi,) Brendon Hartley (Tech 1 Racing) and Jon Lancaster (Fortec Motorsport.)

After a climb up the order in yesterday's Race 1 saw Ferrari Driver Academy entrant Daniel Zampieri get into the points, today he finished in eleventh place, paying the price for starting on the Michelin grooved tyres, which he then changed after just 5 laps. It was definitely a case of having to fight his way up the order for the Pons Racing driver, who could not match yesterday's showing, in a race won by Nathanael Berthon (Draco) ahead of Daniel Ricciardo (Tech 1) and Filip Salaquarda (ISR.) The WSR runners will be back in action over the weekend of 4 July at Budapest for the sixth round of the season.
