Edoardo Mortara joins Tech 1 Racing

Edoardo Mortara will drive the no.1 Formula Renault 3.5 at the Le Mans round. The Italian is one of the front-runners in this year's GP2 Series Championship in which he has already won a race. He will join the Tech 1 Racing team for the French round of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series.

Charles Pic's recent victory at Silverstone has revived Tech 1 Racing's hopes of winning the title. To achieve this the Toulouse-based squad will have to do at least as well at Le Mans, an event that always draws a huge crowd.

As Brendon Hartley is unavailable, Mortara will join the team for this round. "Because of a clash between the F3 Euro Series and the World Series by Renault, Brendon won't be available for the next few races," explains Simon Abadie. "We wish him the very best of luck. He's learned a lot with us, and he's been among the front-runners and proved his out-and-out speed. We hope the he'll end the season on a high note, and we'd be delighted if he could come and do the whole 2010 Formula Renault 3.5 Series with us."

Mortara filled the runner-up spot in the 2008 F3 Euro Series and has already won a round of this year's GP2 Series Championship: he is one of motor racing's rising stars. "Edoardo is one of the best single-seater drivers around at the moment," explains Simon. "He already raced in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series in Hungary so he knows the car. We're very happy to be able to count on him. His mission will be to help us score points towards the teams' championship title. It'll also be useful for Charles Pic to work with an experienced team-mate; they'll make a fantastic pairing."

Qualifying and the first race will take place on Saturday 18th July, and the second race will be on Sunday ay 12h50. Both races will be shown live on Eurosport.
