Jan Charouz and P1 Motorsport participated in World Series by Renault test in Jerez
P1 Motorsport ran its Formulas Renault 3.5 for the second time at the World Series by Renault official test held at Jerez Circuit in Spain on 13/14 March. Team's drivers Jan Charouz and Walter Grubmuller were gaining experience but also attacking the Top 10 in particular practice sessions.
The team was encouraged by the performance and reliability over the course of the Saturday test (March 13th). Although the British squad focused on finding a suitable set-up for its single-seaters above all, Jan Charouz was long leading the rankings in the afternoon practice session. Finally both of P1 Motorsport drivers achieved Top 10 positions.
On Sunday 14th March the team suffered a setback when P1 Motorsport's drivers got new tyres and meant to run their fastest laps. At that moment the practice session was aborted due to an accident suffered by one of another car, and Jan Charouz and Walter Grubmuller couldn't complete their fast lap. Well, the final results haven't reflected the actual state of team affairs, but P1 Motorsport left Spain with important experience, and quite happy.
Jan Charouz, racing driver, P1 Motorsport: "Test in Jerez was very important, because we achieved another experience and made another step in preparing for the upcoming season. The first day of testing was quite O.K. from my point of view, but on Sunday I was little bit unlucky. When I was on the track, it was always been on old tyres, and I couldn't try to drive my fastest lap. In the morning an oil was on the track, and in the afternoon red flags flied exactly in the moment when we changed the tyres to new ones. But overall the test went well, and we gained important data."
Walter Grubmuller, racing driver, P1 Motorsport: ,,Contrary to some technical problems in the first official test, the car was O.K. this weekend. However, we hoped in better results. Unfortunately, we couldn't drive fastest lap on new tyres, because the practice session was aborted in the moment when we changed tyres. But things like this happen. Hopefully, we will be luckier in a following test."
Roly Vincini, P1 Motorsport's boss: ,,On our first day out at Jerez, I was happy to see both drivers running in the top 10. On day two we struggled to get it right on new tyres but nonetheless were able to get into the top six, so overall it was a positive test for the whole team."
Antonin Charouz, drivers' manager: ,,Overall I am pleased with results, although the reached times weren't like I would like them. But it was caused by objective reasons. Well, we will see how it goes on."
The third and the last official test of World Series by Renault will be held at Motorland Aragon Circuit in Spain on 26/27 March. The opening round of the 2010 World Series by Renault will take place also at Motorland Aragon Circuit (16/18 April).
