Van Lagen is back!

Can you sign up for a full season in a top single-seater category when you are about to turn 31 and hope to succeed? If you met Jaap Van Lagen, the current Eurocup Megane Trophy winner the answer is clear: "Yes, you can". Van Lagen has signed up with Red Devil Comtec for what he hopes will be a year of victories.

In what way has the Eurocup Megane Trophy Title contributed to your career?

"To win a European championship is fantastic because it lets everybody know that you are a potential winner for forthcoming competitions -- you're ready to face a new challenge. It's the best calling card. I have been really lucky because now, thanks to my new sponsor, Orient Shipping Rotterdam and Comtec believe in my quality!"

WTCC or FIA GT looked like a more natural choice for you but you have signed for a full season in the World Series Formula Renault 3.5 instead.

"Maybe, but I still believe that I have more to give. This year I will have a full season in a in a top team and I can show everybody the quality of Jaap van Lagen!"

Experts say that 2007 will be a year of change among the current generation of drivers. After having completed 115 races with 27 wins (49 podiums and 25 pole positions!) will your experience beat the upcoming stars of the future?

"I'll be one of the most experienced drivers in the World Series but I want to demonstrate that nowadays racing in a top single-seater class is not about how young or old you are. It is all about wining races, you know? This will be my second year in the World Series, because last year I only took part in three race weekends and not a single mile of testing. But now I'm ready for it".

You have been very committed to the Red Devil Comtec Team since 2006 and now the deal is done, what are your expectations for your full first season with them?

"A really good season, with a lot of podium finishes and some victories as well".

Who do you see as potential title contenders?

"Me! Second place means nothing!"

Do you really work in the construction industry as part of your personal training?

"Yes I do, because it's very important to be fit and this is a fantastic opportunity. I take advantage of every opportunity to work on my fitness and I get paid for it".
