Ricardo Zonta and Tuka Rocha enter the Telefónica World Series by Nissan
The Brazilians have signed with the Spanish team Gabord Competición.
Ricardo Zonta and Tuka Rocha will be the first Brazilian drivers to compete in the Telefónica World Series by Nissan, a new Series that is about to start in Europe, featuring the new Dallara Nissan SN01, with 415 HP. Both Zonta and Rocha will participate in the top category, the World Series, in the Spanish squad Gabord Competición. Both will be on duty this weekend for the first collective tests, which will take place at the Valencia Circuit, on 13-14 April. Valencia will host the first round of the Telefónica World Series by Nissan, on 12 May.
Zonta, former F-1 driver with BAR and Jordan, tested the new World Series single-seater in February, at the Albacete Circuit, when he was invited by the organisers. He was very impressed by the whole project: "When they invited me I took it as a normal shakedown to help the organisers, but when I tested the car I was really interested in taking part. The car is very fast, modern, and similar to an F-1", affirmed the Brazilian.
Tuka Rocha, the three times Brazilian Go-Kart Champ, faces the Telefónica World Series as a challenge: "It's hard to believe that I left Go-Karting in the year 2000, and now I'm about to start competing in Europe in a category that is already considered superior than the international F-3000", said the F3 South American Light vice-champion. "I'm very happy to have this opportunity and I am extremely motivated by this new challenge. I want to do a very regular championship and learn a lot in my first European year", continued the 19-year-old driver. Tuka said that he is not under pressure having such an experienced driver as a team mate: "It's really good to have someone like Ricardo by my side; it's a good base for me. I'll look at his data and I can compare myself with the best driver in the Series" he added.
Jesús Sánchez, Sporting Director in Gabord Competición, is delighted to have signed an agreement with the Brazilian couple: "It's going to be such a wonderful experience for the entire Gabord Team. We have two young Brazilian talents, with great experience, like Zonta, and a promising future, like Tuka. We will try to give them a competitive and fast car", affirmed Sánchez.
