AWESOME VICTORY FOR WALKER ON HOME SOIL!!

James Walker won the World Series by Renault race at Donington Park today in fantastic style after starting the 45-minute race from pole position. The Jersey-born racer who went to school just up the road from Donington drove the race of his life en route to the best result of his career.

James had some wheelspin off the line and lost first place to Mikhail Aleshin but he kept his head down and closely followed the Russian driver, waiting for the moment to make his move. He drove a mature race and on lap 22 the moment came. The safety car had been on track for a few laps and when the green flag dropped Aleshin ran wide at the Old Hairpin and the lead belonged to James!

He didn't look back and stayed at the front all the way to the chequered flag, crossing the line to rapturous applause from the capacity British crowd.

"This is a dream come true," said James when he came down from the podium. "What a result! The World Series is new to me this year and also to Fortec. We are learning together and have made steady progress through the year. So far we haven't had the luck but we had it today! To bounce back from a poor result in qualifying and win the race is just incredible. It was ironic that I had my first bad start of the year though! I'm especially happy to win here in Donington as I went to school near here (Trent College) and I have been looking forward to racing here all year. What we have to do now is keep the momentum going into the final three events of the year."

The World Series season continues in two weeks time at the Magny Cours Circuit in France on 22/23 September.
