The World Series by Nissan speaks laud in Barcelona: 1.29.765. Franck Montagny breaks the F3000 pole in Catalunya
Viladelprat: "This is the right place to be. Today, the World Series have no rival as a top category to step in Formula One."
Barcelona, 27 February 2003 - Franck Montagny, the French Renault F1 test driver, has set the pace in the first Pre-Season tests in Barcelona. Gabord Competicion has made an excellent work in the Circuit de Catalunya placing his two drivers in top 5 positions. Kovalainen has been the fifth best driver of the World Series by Nissan. Pedro de la Rosa visited the team in the afternoon and profited the talks with some friends in the paddock. The Spanish driver has been really impressed with the look of the cars.
Luciano Burti (Adrian Campos Motorsport) could not use new tyres due to a red flag, five minutes before the last Session ended: "We play a lot with the car but it was a pity not to be on top of the times. But we are happy with the information we got from the car. .
Actually, seven Formula One drivers were testing the World Series car with the new spec of the engine. A Nissan spokesman said the test has been really successful: "The drivers said to as that this evolution suits them quite well. The engine has more torque now, and the car is more driveable now. The times went down progressively as the track was getting drier, from 1.34 till the brake of the 1.30 barrier. Montagny looks ready for the Season:
"The car looks great--Gabord has done an exceptional work since they received the new engines. I'm here to win this year! I'm really on to it. Everybody has been so nice in the Team since I arrived. Kovalainen is quite fast eh? He's going to be serious rival."
Giorgio Pantano, current F-3000 champion, achieved a remarkable second best time. Bas Leinders (1.30.843), third, still hasn't found a seat in the World Series by Nissan. Neither has Stephane Sarrazin (10th). Both are targeted to sign with Racing Engineering but the team has not made any official statement yet. Enrique Bernoldi could not complete the afternoon's session with RC Motorsport, but he has made his choice:
"This Series are really competitive. Lots of F-1 drivers around. The car is very fast. I've made a decision myself. I want to be in this Series but I still have to find a Team!"
Ander Vilariño (Epsilon Euskadi) has been the first Spanish driver. The vasque driver has been 4th. Joan Viladelprat is back in action. Now, as a sporting assessor of the Epsilon Euskadi Team: "Without any doubt, these Series are more interesting that F-3000".
The World Series by Nissan will be on track the next 11th of March at El Jarama (Madrid), 2nd Collective Tests
