STREET CIRCUIT DEBUT AWAITS BRATT IN MARRAKECH
Will Bratt makes his first ever visit to the Marrakech street circuit in Morocco this weekend, 1st/2nd May, when the second event of the 2010 FIA Formula 2 Championship gets underway.
Making a strong debut in the category a fortnight ago during the season opening race meeting at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, the 22-year-old from Banbury is currently classified fifth in the driver standings but is actually tied on points with fourth placed Dean Stoneman.
Marrakech is the only street circuit visited by the Formula 2 Championship and its inclusion on the 2010 calendar marks the first ever visit of F2 to Morocco. Rounds three and four of the season also see F2 join the FIA World Touring Car Championship support package for the first time this year.
The 2.82-mile circuit is situated in the Agdal district of the North African country and is certainly unique, featuring several long straights which should promote plenty of slip-streaming opportunities into the tight chicanes and notorious final corner hairpin.
"I'm really looking forward to this weekend's event, it's always good to go to a new track and with none of the drivers having raced an F2 car there before we should all be on a pretty level playing field", said Will.
"At Silverstone we made a decent start to the season, I wasn't completely happy with our pace but we scored some good points, especially considering the limited testing I had before the event. In Marrakech it'll be very important to get as much track time as possible during the Friday practice sessions to set ourselves up well for qualifying."
As part of the build-up to this weekend's race meeting, the F2 drivers will take part in a special street parade through the centre of Marrakech on Thursday, 29th April. The first track action takes place on Friday, 30th April, with free practice at 09.45 and 12.30 and then the first qualifying session at 16.30.
Round three of the 2010 FIA Formula 2 Championship will get underway at approximately 11.15 on Saturday, 1st May, with the round four qualifying session following at 17.00. The second race of the weekend will then take place at 12.05 on Sunday, 2nd May.
Digital satellite and cable broadcaster British Eurosport will screen coverage of both races -- please check listings for full details. The action can also be followed online at www.formulatwo.com
