GAC and Alex Brundle celebrate early results in new F1A Formula 2 Championship

SINGAPORE, 11 May 2009 -- The GAC Group, an international provider of shipping, logistics and marine services, is revelling in its sponsored driver Alex Brundle's early achievements in the brand new FIA Formula 2 motor racing championship.

The 24 x Formula 2 cars took to the track for the first time on 5 May and 18-year old Alex Brundle, son of Formula 1 legend Martin, immediately set the pace by achieving a lap time of under one minute during the tests at Snetterton racetrack, England.

Emerging from the GAC-branded car, Brundle enthused:

"I knew the lap was pretty quick. The car feels brilliant -- it's awesome in the high speed turns. I really love driving this car."

More tests follow at Silverstone on 18 May, ahead of the first Championship event at Valencia at the end of this month. Both GAC and Brundle are feeling confident.

"GAC has watched Alex's career develop steadily. We are pleased to continue this association, which began last year with Alex's impressive single-seater debut in Formula Palmer Audi," said Bill Hill, GAC Group's Vice President, Logistics Services. "GAC has close relationships throughout the world of sport. The qualities of speed and precision as demonstrated by top up-and-coming sportspeople such as Alex Brundle are the same qualities that our clients rely on."

Alex Brundle started out in kart racing and soon progressed to the PalmerSport Junior T Car Saloon Series in 2006, aged just 15. Two years in Formula Palmer Audi followed, ending his second season in sixth position with three podium finishes in total.
