Testing continued apace at Jerez on Thursday and it was Toyota test driver Ricardo Zonta who was the best of the ten-strong field. Driving the interim chassis, Zonta set a best of 1:16.654. Jarno Trulli took to the track in the new TF105 for the first time and was seventh fastest.

Kimi Raikkonen and Juan Pablo Montoya took second and third quickest respectively for McLaren for their first day on track as teammates -- Raikkonen was a tenth up on Montoya. "Today was my first test with Kimi and it was really good," said Juan Pablo. "The way we are working is very focused and I am really enjoying it."

Equally close in the times were the Williams pair of Nick Heidfeld and Antonio Pizzonia, also separated by a tenth. Heidfeld was fourth, working on tyres, engine mapping and set up, while Pizzonia, fifth, focused on brake ducts, traction control and cooling systems.

Franck Montagny was the sole Renault in sixth, while Enrique Bernoldi and Jenson Button continued for BAR, eighth and ninth. Ferrari test driver Marc Gené rounded off the times in 10th. The Spaniard was back at work after his shunt yesterday and focused on tyres, new components and electronics.
