At a hot and humid Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday morning, Jaguar Racing began its on-track preparations for the American Grand Prix, with the three team cars of Mark Webber, Christian Klien and Bjorn Wirdheim running a total of 61 trouble-free laps.

Test driver Wirdheim ended the session with sixth fastest time - by far his most competitive showing to date. "The car was working really well and I'm very confident here, having tested here for Jordan last year. Obviously the main aim was to gather information for the team, but at the same time I'm happy to show what I can do."

Wirdeim was running a busy programme comprising engine developments (including anti-stall device work), aerodynamic and brake developments as well as some tyre comparison work.

Webber completed fewer laps, preferring to keep mileage off his engines, but worked on his race set up and tyre comparison. Klien completed 26 laps as he learned the track and worked at his set up.
