Ferrari team principal Jean Todt said Michael Schumacher's win at Monza was very much needed by the team and now the last two races of the season won't be so difficult. Schumacher's victory in Italy stretched his lead over Juan Pablo Montoya in the Driver's standings to three points, although Williams still leads the Constructors'.

Ferrari has been struggling in the last couple of races and a win at home was just what the team had hoped for. "In all honestly, after the last Grand Prix weekend I was very concerned that it was getting more and more difficult," said Todt.

"We knew that if we didn't do well here this would have made the thing much more difficult. The result here makes it possible to fight for the next two Grands Prix."

"The best one is the one that's very much needed and this was very much needed. We always say we know what we are, we know who we are, we know where we stand. But it's very much rewarding, pleasing when you are able to answer with facts like we have been able to do today."

The work doesn't let up for Ferrari, as the team now heads for a three-track attack on testing at Jerez, Fiorano and Monza this week. "(Sunday) was only the first step on a steep climb," said Todt. "The nearer you get to the peak of the mountain, the harder it gets."

The last time Schumacher won this season was six races ago in Canada and the German was evidently relieved: "I think this is the greatest day in my career," he said after the race. "It is a long time since I won."
