Formula One rookie Justin Wilson has been nominated to receive the 'Achievement in Sport' award at this Thursday's (6 November) 11th Yorkshire Young Achievers Awards, hosted at Elland Road, home of Leeds United Football Club.

This year, the Sheffield-born 25-year-old finally achieved his goal of racing in motorsports premier category, starting his maiden F1 season with Minardi, putting in some electrifying performances in the under-powered PS03, before leaping to Jaguar Racing following the British Grand Prix in July, scoring his first World Championship point at the U.S. Grand Prix and posting a top ten qualifying position two weeks later in Japan.

With limited opportunity to head back to his native Yorkshire during a hectic Formula One schedule, Wilson was delighted to confirm his attendance for this Thursday's award ceremony, amongst what is still a busy post-season programme of events for the F1 star.

Nominations for the Yorkshire Young Achievers Awards are open to people under-35 who live, work or were born in Yorkshire. In addition to the 'Achievement in Sport' category in which Justin is nominated, other categories celebrate and recognise talent and excellence in the Arts, Education, IT and Management and Enterprise.

The money raised by the Yorkshire Young Achievers Awards helps the children's charity NCH and supports its work in the region with vulnerable children, young people and their families.
