New Minardi signing Justin Wilson is getting into practice with racing games on a PlayStation to familiarize himself with the F1 circuits. Wilson knows some circuits from racing in F3000 but others will be new to him and he's preparing himself with the virtual experience. Computer games have long been a tried and tested practice for racing drivers and although it's not quite as good as the real thing, the games can give a good idea of what to expect from a track.

"Any track information I can take on board will be very valuable," Wilson told the British press. "The games are very realistic and they are giving me a real feel for the corners and a rough idea of what to expect. It will be a real help when I get to the circuit and drive round in an F1 car. Obviously it's not the same as driving the car around a circuit but I believe it will help."

Wilson had a struggle to get his six foot four frame into a Minardi chassis and the team subsequently altered the car to accommodate him. It's yet to be seen who will partner Wilson, no announcement has been made by Minardi about a second driver. Dutchmen Jos Verstappen and Mercedes DTM driver Christijan Albers have been strongly linked to the available race seat but finances seem to be the final hurdle.

Minardi boss Paul Stoddart is reportedly wanting money up front from prospective drivers and the driver's sponsors are apparently reluctant to pay in advance. Verstappen said a while ago that he was only waiting on Minardi confirming a supply of Cosworth engines before he signed up, but the confirmation has been and gone and Verstappen has not yet committed himself. According to a Dutch news agency, Minardi and Albers have already signed an agreement but Stoddart wants cash in advance before the deal is finalized.
