BMW WilliamsF1's technical director Patrick Head announced that engineers Nick Alcock and Jason Somerville will fill the vacancy left by departing aerodynamics chief Geoff Willis.

Willis is moving to rivals British American Racing (BAR) as technical director from March 2002.

Head said neither of the two were direct replacements for Willis, adding that titles had not been agreed. Chief designer Gavin Fisher will also take on some temporary extra responsibilities.

The situation is similar to that in 1997 when Adrian Newey left Williams to become McLaren's technical director and Fisher and Willis were promoted to replace him from within the team.
