BMW WilliamsF1 Team test driver Antonio Pizzonia set the pace on the first day of testing at Jerez de la Frontera.

The final test of the 2004 Formula One World Championship season got underway at Jerez de la Frontera today, as the BMW WilliamsF1 Team began its preparations for the forthcoming Brazilian Grand Prix.

Although the weather was overcast in the morning, conditions improved throughout the day, with the ambient temperature reaching 26 degrees C.

Antonio Pizzonia was the BMW WilliamsF1 Team's sole representative in Jerez, and began the day carrying out brake and systems checks. He later concentrated on set-up work before switching to tyre testing in the afternoon.

The Brazilian completed the most laps (100), and also posted the fastest time, 1:17.055, his best time of the year at the Spanish track.

Testing continues here tomorrow, with Antonio on duty once again.

Tim Newton (Test Team Manager, WilliamsF1):

"Antonio Pizzonia topped the times sheets today and completed 100 laps on our first day of testing at Jerez. Despite overcast conditions first thing this morning, Antonio carried out brake and systems checks followed by set-up work on the FW26 in preparation for the Brazilian Grand Prix next weekend. In the afternoon, under clearer skies, we focussed on tyre testing with Michelin."
