Eponymous team boss Sir Frank Williams has denied the recent rumours that his team is thinking about dropping Ralf Schumacher. The BBC reported that the Grove squad is supposedly frustrated with Schumacher's inconsistent performance this year and is seriously reconsidering the German's contract.

Jordan's Giancarlo Fisichella is speculated to be the favourite to take Schumacher's place but Williams, par for the course, denied any negotiations were taking place: "I think something appeared on the internet and it is total nonsense," he said at Imola today.

"We have a perfectly valid contract in both directions until the end of 2004 and we have every intention of supporting that. Witness today's performance improvement, only a fool would do otherwise."

Rumour also suggested that Fisichella and Williams met for dinner recently to discuss the future but according to Frank, this was not so. "I've been told I had dinner whenever it was but no-one's invited me yet," he remarked.

"There was no dinner. When I say he hasn't invited me that is the case. I shook his (Fisichella's) hand after Brazil and Eddie's (Jordan) too. Maybe I've seen him twice since then."
