The media seem to have picked up on the idea that Wendlinger is in a coma as a result of his accident. While no one is in any doubt that he did have bad head injuries, his coma was induced by doctors trying to give his brain a chance to recover from the swelling it received. It was NOT a direct result of the accident.

This is according to the Sauber team manager on Eurosport during qualifying.
