It was misty again today at the Circuit de Catalunya where four teams and six drivers took part in the testing session. There were many frustrating mechanical problems for drivers but Renault continued their form, this time with Jenson Button topping the times. The 22 year old was easily the fastest man on track in the R202 and set a fastest of 1.17.687out of 88 laps. Button was very pleased with the performance of the car: doing long runs in the morning and working on set up in the afternoon, he was confident there is more to come.

Second fastest was Heinz Harald Frentzen for Arrows in the A23, a second slower than Button. Frentzen worked on set-ups and getting used to the car, which he reported was basically good. Arrows were also testing at Vairano today, concentrating on straight line work.

The first of the two Jordans was Takuma Sato in third, who had a less than productive day with persistent mechanical problems. The EJ12 resisted his efforts to put in consistent lap runs every time out, each stint ending prematurely.

Fourth was Mark Webber, who also had problems with the PS02 but managed to be ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella; the Jordan driver had similar gremlins to team mate Sato and was over a second slower than him. Rounding up the times was the second Minardi of Alex Yoong who was over three seconds behind Webber.
