VLADIMIR ARABADZHIEV TO DRIVE LOTUS RACING FORMULA 1 CAR IN ABU DHABI TEST
(12th October 2010 -- SOFIA, BULGARIA) The first ever drive of a current Formula 1 car by a Bulgarian racing driver will take place next week, 17th November 2010, at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
Vladimir Arabadzhiev from Plovdiv has been invited by the Anglo-Malaysian Lotus Racing team to test their Lotus Cosworth T127 following recent discussions with Vladimir's management and having assessed his career performance to date.
"I'm very excited to have been invited to take part in this test." said Vladimir. "Lotus Racing is one of the most professional Formula 1 racing teams and have made fantastic progress this season for a new team who started with a clean sheet of paper only last year. Lotus Racing has the best car of the new teams in F1 and the chance to drive the Lotus Cosworth T127 at one of my favourite circuits is a dream come true."
Arabadzhiev will drive the T127 in a test programme specially developed by Lotus Racing to evaluate his adjustment to a Formula 1 car from his previous experience in GP2. Apart from analysing his technical driving in the finest detail through telemetry and timing data, the team will also be looking at his overall performance, feedback of technical information from the car during the test and his psychological maturity in handling one of the fastest racing cars in the world.
Nigel Gordon-Stewart, Vladimir Arabadzhiev's manager, commented, "Working with a team as professional and focused as Lotus Racing will be a great experience for Vladimir. These guys have made really stellar efforts this year and I couldn't ask for a better opportunity for Vladimir. I was delighted to work with Nino Judge at Lotus Racing to make this test happen and see this as a further step up the ladder in Vladimir's career."
Tony Fernandes, Lotus Racing Team Principal, gave his comments, saying "We are very pleased to have confirmed that Vladimir will be driving for us in Abu Dhabi. He comes from a country with growing interest in motorsport, and the chance to give emerging drivers the opportunity to step up to Formula One is central to the Lotus Racing philosophy of embracing young talent. Everyone in the team is looking forward to working with him at the test and I am delighted we could give him this opportunity."
"My intention is to give nothing less than 100% at the test," said Vladimir. "This is a great opportunity for me and they don't happen every day -- although I wish they did! It's a very important step and I will do my very best for Lotus Racing, my family, my sponsors, my management and my country."
