Jos Verstappen was offered a drive with Minardi, to replace the struggling Alex Yoong, but turned it down as he doesn't think the Asiatech engine is competitive enough. Verstappen, who has been looking for an F1 drive since being ousted from Arrows at the beginning of this season, told a Dutch magazine that he was pleased to get the offer but would not be taking it up.

"I'm happy Paul (Stoddart) gave me a call but at the moment I would not like to drive at Minardi," the Dutchman said. "The car is not bad at all, but the performance of the Asiatech engine is as bad as last year. So what can I show at Minardi?"

"It would be a difficult task to perform better than Mark Webber. He knows the car thoroughly and is physically stronger because he has driven throughout the season. Obviously, I'm training a lot, but for instance, the only proper training for my neck is driving."

After Yoong failed to qualify for the German Grand Prix, Minardi boss Stoddart said he would consider replacing the Malaysian with another driver while Yoong got in some serious testing time. Verstappen still hopes to return to F1 next year.
