Max Verstappen will lose five places on the grid for the Canadian Grand Prix after being hit with a penalty in Monaco.
The Toro Rosso driver crashed into the back of Romain Grosjean's Lotus as they fought for 10th place near the end of the race.
Verstappen, who ended up hitting the wall hard, said Grosjean had braked early and that he was not actually trying to pass him.
"It wasn't really a move, in my vision," said Verstappen. "In the lap before, I already braked in the same place as when I crashed, but you could see when I crashed that the car in front of me braked earlier."
The stewards, however, found Verstappen was to blame for causing the crash and have awarded him a five-place grid penalty for the next race in Canada.
The rookie was also awarded two penalty points, which are his first.
