After the first free practice session of Saturday's Australian Grand Prix, the surprise man on top was BAR's Jenson Button, who was swiftly followed by former team mate Jarno Trulli topping the times for Renault in the second practice. Button was just under half a second slower in second place.

Michael Schumacher managed to set the fourth time despite hitting a wall and McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen shoved his car into the wall big time. The McLaren was destroyed but Raikkonen walked away.

Renault shone impressively with Trulli fastest and Fernando Alonso third, Schumacher and Ferrari team mate Rubens Barrichello relegated to fourth and fifth.

Williams followed the Scuderia, Montoya and Ralf Schumacher sixth and seventh respectively, Sauber's Nick Heidfeld eighth and McLaren's David Coulthard ninth. Toyota also performed well, Olivier Panis and Cristiano da Matta tenth and eleventh.

Mark Webber was the better of the Jaguar drivers in twelfth, followed by the BAR of Jacques Villeneuve. The second Sauber of Heinz-Harald Frentzen was fifteenth, behind Raikkonen, and Jordan was disappointing -- Giancarlo Fisichella and Ralph Firman 16th and 17th.

Antonio Pizzonia was a lowly 18th for Jaguar and, strangely enough, Minardi rounded off the times, Justin Wilson getting the better of Jos Verstappen.
