There has been a fair amount of speculation regarding who's doing what with tyres next season, with some Michelin teams rumoured to be switching to Bridgestone. In light of this speculation, Toyota, currently a Michelin runner, has moved to clarify its position.

"Toyota can confirm that it is in advanced negotiations with Bridgestone over tyre supply for its Formula One team in 2006 but no agreement has been signed," it said in a statement. "The decision to consider a switch of tyre supplier has been made by Toyota."

Not long ago Michelin appealed for more balance between the tyre suppliers, as the French manufacturer currently supplies seven teams and Bridgestone only three. The word in the paddock at Spa is that Michelin is due to make an announcement in regard to its future plans -- some believe Michelin may be preparing to withdraw from F1.

Red Bull, which will be Ferrari-powered next season, was thought to be making the switch to Bridgestone for 2006 but it now seems that the team might stay with Michelin. Williams has also been linked with a Bridgestone supply for 2006 but for the moment we'll have to wait and see.
