Japanese Formula One driver Aguri Suzuki, 35, was injured in a qualifying accident at the Japanese Grand Prix today.

Suzuki, who has been alternating with Martin Brundle in one of the Ligier- Honda cars this season, spun off in a high-speed segment of the Suzuka circuit, and spun his car heavily backwards int othe barriers.

Suzuki was unconscious after the crash, was removed from the car on a stretcher, and flown by a helicopter to the hospital. The qualifying session was red-flagged.

No reports are yet available on his condition.
