Minardi team boss Paul Stoddart may have wished to keep driver Mark Webber but is supportive of his move to Jaguar. Webber was confirmed by Jaguar for 2003 along side Antonio Pizzonia in a complete change of line up for the team and Stoddart thinks it was a smart move on behalf of Jaguar principal Niki Lauda.

"He's going to do an incredibly good job," Stoddart said of Webber's future. "He'll rise to the challenge and I think you will find that Mark will put the team spirit and stability into Jaguar that it needs. It's probably a very smart move by Niki Lauda to take him."

Webber's performance in this year's championship attracted the attention of Jaguar, but his experience as a test driver was also a contributing factor in the team's decision to sign him up.

"Mark has solid F1 experience and now's his chance to prove exactly what he's capable of," Lauda said when Jaguar announced its new drivers. Webber scored Minardi's first points since 1999 at the Australian Grand Prix this season when he came home fifth. He and Pizzonia will begin testing towards the end of this month.
