Singapore GP Season Revs Up For Fun and Excitement in September
One more reason for visitors to stay that extra day for a complete race experience
Singapore -- An exciting season of top-notch lifestyle experiences, the inaugural Singapore GP Season, with its range of adrenalin-inducing performances and endless entertainment, is set to complement the historic 2008 Formula One SingTel Singapore Grand Prix, giving visitors more reason to stay that extra day in Singapore for a complete Uniquely Singapore race experience.
Held over three weekends from 20 September to 5 October, the Singapore GP Season is anchored by more than 10 lifestyle events and premium experiences that include the Singapore River Festival, Opera Gallery's Master's Formula -- The Artistic Drive, Amber Lounge and The Bulgari Watch Exhibition amongst many others. Visitors and locals can also look forward to a host of dining and retail promotions and late night shopping opportunities for a complete lifestyle experience.
"The Singapore GP Season will help entrench Singapore's standing as a world-class events and entertainment capital and position Singapore as a top-notch lifestyle destination, providing unique experiences to complement the first ever night race in Formula OneTM history," said Ms Margaret Teo, Assistant Chief Executive (Leisure), Singapore Tourism Board. "The Season is the result of a concerted effort by the Singapore Tourism Board together with the private sector to conceptualise and make possible these exciting lifestyle experiences. We hope that the Singapore GP Season will not only enhance the experience of visitors but also offer a compelling reason for them to stay an extra day or two simply to revel in the exciting race ambience and gather their most memorable Uniquely Singapore personal experiences."
A key highlight of the Singapore GP Season is the inaugural Singapore River Festival, a week long celebration that focuses on three key elements: water, heritage and entertainment. As part of the Singapore River Festival, Clarke Quay will host a myriad of activities which features concerts on the river by international and local artistes and outdoor parties with DJs spinning the latest hits. Look out for the Southeast Asia first ever mega illusion show, "The Impossible Journey" by J C Sum, held at The Central. Showcasing the best in local talent, the 10-day Timbre Music Festival will be held, for the first time, outdoors along the river promenade and promises to add buzz and activity to the Empress Place area. This historic district is also set to dazzle with the return of six traditional bumboats which will be decorated for a special float parade that will culminate in a visually spectacular dance drama, "Legenda Singapura". For interesting tales about Boat Quay and Clarke Quay, join the walking tours, "The Tipple Exchange" and "Of Dali, Barley and HadhramisTM".
The Singapore Beer Festival promises a showcase of hundreds of the world's best beers from breweries across the world including rare brews from places as far away as the Isle of Wight and Coney Island, available for the first time in Asia. Held within the lush landscape of Fort Canning Park, this trade and consumer event will also present international music artists, stand-up comedy shows by Jonathan Atherton, one of Australia's finest comedians, plus a host of other live entertainment events.
Master's Formula -- The Artistic Drive will showcase monumental sculptures of contemporary masters including Fernando Botero, Arman Fernandez, Robert Combas, Jean Dubuffet and Niki de Saint Phalle at two key tourism precincts - Orchard Road and Singapore River. Art lovers can also look forward to paintings and smaller sculptures of modern art superlatives like Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse at Opera Gallery in Ngee Ann City.
Says Cedric Tan, Director of Media and Public Relations, Balroginc, for Opera Gallery, "The Singapore GP Season provides us with a great platform to showcase premium art that we will be bringing into Singapore, to the locals as well as visitors. Opera Gallery has always regarded Singapore as its Asia Pacific headquarters and we now relish the opportunity to further establish Singapore as the Arts Capital of Asia."
Amber Lounge, the ultra-exclusive party synonymous with the exhilarating action of the Formula One race, is where race drivers, team principals, team sponsors, models and celebrities congregate to party from dusk to dawn. To be held at Millenia Waterfall, near Conrad Centennial, partygoers will be able to experience what former Formula OneTM driver Michael Schumacher termed "...the only place to celebrate after a Grand Prix".
"Formula One is celebrating its first-ever night race in the exciting and unique destination of Singapore. When the Grand Prix was announced, we immediately knew we would create an Amber Lounge event to give the Formula One community the best place to party directly after the race. Amber Lounge party-goers were booking tickets even before the venue was confirmed!" said Sonia Irvine, Director of Amber Lounge.
The Season promises more exciting events as well as a host of enriching lifestyle offerings including dining and retail promotions. So whether it is late night shopping at The Central and Orchard Road, motor-related activities like the Oris Air Asia Grand Prix Challenge, the ING Renault F1 Team Pavilion at Tang Plaza and the TAG Heuer "Racing Legends of our Time" Exhibition at Paragon, dining experiences with Michelin-star chef Laurent Peugeot at the Hilton Hotel or specially designed menus at Hua Ting and My Humble House, visitors and locals will have much to look forward to for a memorable Uniquely Singapore experience.
