After his performances so far this season it may come as a suprise to some that Michael Schumacher is not the clear favourite at the bookies to win the San Marino Grand Prix. The reigning champion won the season opener in Australia and the last race in Brazil and managed to climb through the field to third in Malaysia after having to stop for a nose cone replacement.

Starting the 2002 season with last year's car does not seem to have slowed Schumacher down and with the new chassis in Brazil only brother Ralf came near to being a problem, but not near enough. Ferrari say the F2002 is a second faster than the old car but others in F1 have recently said that its not as good as they expected.

According to betting odds from bookmakers William Hill, Schumacher is not the clear favourite to win a GP for the first time this season, or in the previous two. For Imola he shares the position with Williams' Juan Pablo Montoya with joint favourite odds of 7/4. Schumacher is 1/3 favourite with Hills to win the world title while Montoya is 7/2, other contenders being Ralf Schumacher at 4/1 and McLaren's David Coulthard at 20/1.
