Michael Schumacher has shrugged off world titles as being mere statistics and says all he wants to do is enjoy driving. The German certainly is in a better position than other drivers to treat winning the championship so lightly, having won it five times, but he is still motivated to get out on track and fight for more.

"You always want to do better," he told Spanish paper El Mundo. "You are out there driving, competing and constantly challenging yourself and being challenged by the others. There is always something new to achieve."

"You have to remember that it doesn't matter to the other drivers what I have achieved in the past. They just want to beat me and I want to do the same to them. That's why the true motivation is in the competition and trying to go as fast as possible."

Schumacher is not as quick as others to claim he is the greatest driver of all time but will keep rising to the challenge: "I don't like thinking about things like that, I don't yet know if I am," he commented on being the best. "Because I don't know what is to come and I still believe I am improving."

"Formula One moves so fast that there is always something new to learn.I will keep trying to get better and when I reach the moment when I am not capable of responding to the changes in the sport then it will be time to stop."

"What I really want to do is just enjoy myself driving, world titles are mere statistics."

As for the coming season, the current champion is not expecting Ferrari to have the same walkover it had last year: "I am sure Ferrari won't dominate as much as before," he said. "And from what I have seen McLaren and Williams will be up there this time, although how close we have yet to see."

"What will be interesting is the new qualifying rules, which will make everything more exciting, although the technical changes will have little impact for the spectators."
