Saturday morning practice for the Spanish Grand Prix was cool and dry and Michael Schumacher was the man at the top of the times at the end of the hour-long session. The Ferrari driver clocked a best of 1:15.658 in the final minutes and teammate Felipe Massa was seventh on the time sheet.

Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella was second quickest, half a tenth behind Schumacher, and Fernando Alonso was eighth overall. Nick Heidfeld showed BMW Sauber's pace with third fastest, four tenths down on the lead Ferrari, but Jacques Villeneuve was down in 17th.

The Red Bulls of Christian Klien and David Coulthard were also at the sharp end, fourth and fifth respectively. Rubens Barrichello was the lead Honda in sixth and Jenson Button was five behind in 11th. The McLarens made up the top 10, Juan Pablo Montoya ninth and Kimi Raikkonen 10th.

Scott Speed led the Toro Rosso duo in 12th, with Tonio Liuzzi 14th, which is not a bad result for the Italian squad. Between them was the Toyota of Ralf Schumacher and teammate Jarno Trulli was 18th. Nico Rosberg and Mark Webber's Williams were nose to tail in 15th and 16th.

Tiago Monteiro's MF1 led the backmarkers in 19th and Christijan Albers was 21st. Takuma Sato was the quicker of the two Super Aguris in 20th and Franck Montagny rounded off the times in 22nd. There were no incidents in the session as the drivers prepared for qualifying.
