Sauber Petronas has extended the contract with its tyre supplier Bridgestone for another two years until the end of 2004.

Team Principal Peter Sauber said: "This is an important step for Sauber Petronas to ensure technical continuity and the competitiveness of the team. We began our collaboration with Bridgestone in 1999, and it has been very successful ever since. Bridgestone has proven to be a reliable partner, providing Sauber Petronas with very competitive tyres, and I am confident that our partnership will continue to be successful."

Bridgestone began working with Sauber when it became sole tyre supplier to Formula 1 in 1999, and the team's most successful Formula 1 season to date - fourth place in 2001 - was achieved on Bridgestone tyres.

Hiroshi Yasukawa, director of Bridgestone Motorsport, said: "I am pleased to be able to announce this extension to our contract with Sauber Petronas. It is a team with a commendable history and an exciting future.

"Bridgestone is delighted to be continuing its relationship with Sauber Petronas and contributing to what we hope will be sustained success for the team."
