Felipe Massa topped a rain-hit second practice session for the Russian Grand Prix, in which only eight drivers set a time.
The rain started before the the green lights went on, and it did not stop during the 90 minutes of practice.
Massa went quickest with a lap of 2:00.458 right at the end of the session, outpacing Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and Williams teammate Valtteri Bottas, who had been quickest until the final seconds.
Max Verstappen was fourth quickest for Toro Rosso, with Fernando Alonso completing the top five in a session with very little action.
Vettel was the first man to break the silence over 20 minutes after the start, the Ferrari driver going out for a run on full wets. He returned to the pits right away, however, and the track was empty once more.
Alonso also ventured out briefly, but like Vettel, the Spaniard returned to the garage without posting a time.
Alonso returned to the track before the 40-minute mark and posted the first - and at that point only - time of the session, lapping in 2:05.599, still running full wets.
Bottas was next to take to the track, but returned to the pits after struggling to keep his car on track.
Alonso stayed on the circuit for a few laps and lowered his best to 2:01.077 before diving back into the pits.
Nico Rosberg become the fourth man to jump onto the track, but also failed to set a time.
Toro Rosso drivers Verstappen and Sainz joined Alonso on the timesheets with less than 26 minutes remaining, the Dutchman setting a new fastest time of 2:00.806 before returning to the garage.
The rain intensified after that, making things trickier for the drivers.
Despite that, Bottas and Massa managed to improve in the dying moments of the session.
