Renault's Head of Engine Operations Denis Chevrier talks about the first tests of the RS24

"In general, I think the drivers were expecting to find lower performance engines because of the reliability required this year. They were surprised: the 2004-spec V10 is still a proper F1 engine.

"The first runs were encouraging, confirming the verdict of the dynos. We will now work on track endurance during the second part of winter testing.

"The potential is there, and that has reassured us, even though we had to design and produce this engine in just nine months.

"We now have the season ahead of us to develop it, and the quest for more power has already begun.

"For the RS24, the key thing will be to have no performance loss from Friday to Sunday, because it will have to perform best at the end of its life, on Sunday afternoon."
