Renault become the third team to launch its 2003 challenger when the R23 was unveiled in Lucerne, Switzerland on January 20th. The R23 has been taking shape at the team's bases in both Enstone and Viry-Ch?tillon for the past year. Trulli drove for Renault last season as did Alonso although the young Spaniard was test driver in 2002. This season he is promoted to a race seat and both are looking forward to 2003 as Renault drivers.

"Seeing a new F1 car take shape is always an exciting experience," said Trulli. "Over five hundred people have invested their passion, determination and hard work in making it happen. Straight away, I want to thank all the people working at Renault F1 for their efforts this winter. It is an honour to be competing in Grands Prix as a Renault driver."

Alonso is eager to make the most of his opportunity as race driver: "Getting a race seat with a major manufacturer is a major opportunity, and I'm not going to let it go to waste," he stated. "One thing's for sure: before fighting for myself in 2003, I will be driving for the Team."

Renault also announced the renewal of its partnership with sponsor Mild Seven for a further four years. Mild Seven will remain the team's title sponsor and the cars will carry the distinctive yellow and blue colours. The relationship between Renault and Mild Seven is the longest running title sponsorship in Formula One.

The Lucerne unveiling is the first part of a dual launch for the team, the second part of which will take place at the Paul Ricard circuit in France on Wednesday 23rd January. This will be an on-track presentation where Alonso and Trulli will put the car through its paces.
