There is strong speculation that Renault will announce the signing of Giancarlo Fisichella this week, to replace Jarno Trulli in 2005. Fischella's manager Enrico Zanarini has confirmed that a deal has been offered that he and Fisichella are happy with -- but the contract has not yet been signed.

"The signature is not officially down yet so you can never say it is sure in this sport," said Zanarini today, according to Reuters. "When it is going to be official, I don't know, but it is up to the team to announce."

"The contract has to be signed and certified and option dates have to be matched and so on but in general we have been offered deals that are absolutely fine with what we wanted."

Fisichella, currently with Sauber, drove for Renault in its previous incarnation as Benetton for four years. He was dropped in 2002 in favour of Trulli but now it looks like the situation is about to be reversed.

Trulli announced on Sunday that he will be leaving Renault after this season. Reportedly he and team boss, and his manager, Flavio Briatore fell out over Trulli's personal management contract. Jarno is rumoured to be heading to Toyota for next year.
