Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen was delighted with his first podium finish since Korea 2013 in today’s Bahrain Grand Prix, and thinks his Ferrari team called the perfect strategy for him to do so.
Despite questioning their decision to pick the soft tyre for his final stint, Raikkonen used the quicker rubber to close in and pass the Mercedes of Nico Rosberg, to finish just 3.3s behind his teammate Lewis Hamilton after both Mercs hit late-race brake problems.
“We had good speed all the time, we did more or less the maximum,” said Raikkonen. “Second is still a bit disappointing, but we have to be happy with the points.
“I think we made the right calls on the tyres we used. We have to get higher up at the start of the race to be able to do more, as we have the speed more or less to follow the Mercedes.
“Obviously when you get into a fight with them you lose, so we have to improve everything a little bit.”
