Toyota driver Ralf Schumacher will have a half a second penalty added to his aggregate qualifying time due to a tyre error in Thursday's practice for the Monaco Grand Prix. Schumacher was found to have used a left front tyre that was not officially allocated to him.

It seems that the original tyre on his car had not been marked correctly at the factory; a Michelin technician noticed and asked for the tyre to be changed but forgot to inform the FIA. Toyota and Michelin accepted the stewards' decision and the tyre manufacturer said the mistake was human error.

It's Schumacher's second time penalty this season; at the San Marino Grand Prix he was penalised 25 seconds for an incident in the pit lane, which subsequently lost him his eighth place. This half second added to his qualifying time will be a blow as grid position is one of the most important things at Monaco.
